1975 1500 on Carlson Contender after motor rebuild
hit 69 without any trouble, will go faster.
Looks like a Glasteck tunnel boat. I had one it was called "The Great White Knuckler" It had a 150 XS Black and Red. Sportsman Paradise in Monrovia,CA made me a light weight Glastek around 300lbs.I went undefeated in the MPH drags At Blue Water on the Colorado river. It ran high 80's Funtimes. I wish I could post a photo of it here.
That ole Merc is screaming! Great post.
Love That Engine!!!! Just seems to jump outta the hole effortlessly!!
Thanks, great video, you made me jealous.
I think it starts with a 4. The 1500xs had red stickers, slightly higher port timing (j block), 15 inch mid (short shaft) and a special lower unit that had the cooling water inlets under the bullet by the skeg and also louvered cowling. The true 1500xs started in 1976. My motor is a 1975. Mine has everything from factory that a true 1500xs has except the special lower unit, and of course blue stickers. I have the special lower unit now, I just need to get it put together.
I have the same motor (or it looks exactly the same). The first number of the engine number has been worn away, what does yours start with? What's the difference between a 1500 and 1500 XS? Is it the shaft length? Great video. Steve
I owned of these is was nearly brand new when I purchased it. changed engine mounts from rubber type, turned up alloy solid type. speed in crease of 9mph, had a lot of class wins with it, they classics now.
In 1975 they made this motor. (blue/black) It was all the same as a (red/black) xs motor that they started in 1976. Except the blue 1975 motor did not have low water pick up lower unit and of course the color was different. The 1975 1500 short shafts were never called 1500xs but they paved the way with everything that made the next years 1500xs. They even had the special J block installed. Thanks
Wow…just a bit fast. The two you saw that I have are equipped with a 50 and a 80. I have a 125 in my garage now but will have to wait a bit more to go out with that. I think the 80 is fun enough and keeps me out of trouble on the river but always could use more speed. Thanks for the ride!
Ohhh yeah. I always wear a lifejacket Jeff. its just hard to see because it blends in with my coat. If you look close you can see at bit of yellow showing thru.
Im actually thinking of getting a lifeline or at least a cheap knock off.
