Tape of the 1987 Olds Aerotech concept car driven by racing legend and brawler AJ Foyt at the Fort Stockton Test Center in Texas!
I want to make a carbon fibre body shaped kind of like the aerotech's and put a 1800+ Horsepower engine in it, so then we can put all of the hennessys, bugattis, and koenigseggs to shame!
Sorry folks, this was shot at Desert Proving grounds in Mesa, Arizona. My husband (retired Oldsmobile engineer) was the engineer associated with the electronics and engine performances. His bud, Bill Porterfield was project manager.
It took the Germans 8 liters, 16 cylinders, and 4 turbos to make 1200hp and run 267mph with modern technology…
It took Oldsmobile a 2.3 liter, 4 banger, with twin turbos to make 1000hp and run 267mph (it was clocked as high as 290mph on straights and still accelerating according to AJ; He ran outta track before he ran outta speed) And that all happened 27 years ago…
And the world acts like the Bugatti is some kind of marvel of engineering…
In other words, GM could easily best any supercar in the world (long before anyone else). There just isn't much of a market for cars that cost $8 million each to build (VW takes a $6.25 million loss on every one they sell), can only hit top speed on 2 or 3 circuits in the entire world, gets less than 4 mpg with tires that only last 30-40 miles over 250mph…
In 1992, the 4 liter aurora V8 aerotech broke 47 speed endurance records, most of which still stand to this day.
In other words, the Bugatti is just a late, expensive failure in engineering.
@owens10101 – Test prototypes only, so not street legal and most likely not purchasable. Two versions made – short tail and long tail. Powered by a turbocharged 2.3 straight 4 cylinder producing 850 bhp. Short tail achieved 257 mph, and the long tail achieved 274 mph.
Oldsmobile,,what a total Beast…awesome stuff.
it appears like the old arizona test track 20 miles from phx
This car still exist but its super rare to find it
I'm glad the used up plenty of screen for the "Prerecorded" stripe. If it wasn't for that, I would think I was watching something live in 1987.
@bynddrvn5 thats only the short tail version, the long tail maxed out at 278.78 mph… if this car went in to production it would hold a total of 22 records something the bugatti cant fuk wit
AJ FOYT his name is alot like richard petty's,even his name sounds fast, but why does tony stewart remind me so much of AJ.????
For all those veyron fans out there… keep in mind this was done 23 years ago, with a 2 liter quad four…
The things GM is capable of… is quite frankly beyond european's comprehension …
Had a toy of this car as a kid, thats how i know about this car. I always find it unusual how hardly anyone is aware of the existance of this car(s) and how little is known about its history/development in general, even its wikipedia article is pathetically small.
There were actually 2 versions of this car: the short tail, which achieved 257 mph, and the longtail, which achieved 274 mph.
@VectorFanGT damn, you're RIGHT! Germans need a V16 to beat an old "iron duke" lol
HA HA! When I found the tape there was NO SOUND on it… OK? We good now?
@lilguy574 are you on drugs? i posted the specs of this car. i've always known it was a I-4 quad-cam and not a V8.
back before oldsmobile became a bunch of crappy rebadged budget cars
Shame that Oldsmobile is gone.. they always had some innovative ideas.
you i swear to the life of my soul…. my dad bought AJ Foyts jet! its a hawker and Foyt has had the plane for 10 YEARS OH! AND FOYTS PILOT ROBERT(HIS NAME) HE FLEW ME AND MY DAD TOO I SWEAR YOU HAVE TOO BELIEVE ME!!!!
